At 9.15 am, the local currency opened lower at 4.1700/1799 against the greenback from 4.1310/1400 at Friday's closing.
The local unit rallied to a seven-week high of 4.1310/1400 last Friday compared to 4.4100/4180 the previous Friday on the back of improved sentiment.
Dealers said sentiment however was positive for the ringgit as regional currencies remained on the uptrend amid the weakening greenback.
