Ringgit sharply higher in early session

The ringgit was sharply higher against the greenback in the early session today as the US Federal Reserve's dovish policy statement and economic projections spurred more demand for it.

At 9.05 am, the ringgit was quoted at 3.7270/7300 to the US dollar from Wednesday's 3.7560/7600.
A dealer said the local note's strength was buoyed by weakness in the US dollar which fell after the US Federal Reserve's meeting failed to spell out the timing of an interest rate hike.

Meanwhile, the ringgit traded mixed against other major currencies.

It declined against the Singapore dollar to 2.7901/7934 from 2.7882/7930 recorded yesterday, and fell against the euro to 4.2335/2380 from 4.2300/2356.
