Dollar climbs against yen ahead of U.K. referendum

The Japanese yen eased from earlier gains against the U.S. dollar in Asian trade Tuesday, having come close to a 22-month high earlier in the session ahead of the U.K. referendum on European Union membership later in the week.

The U.S. dollar USDJPY, +0.47%  was changing hands at ¥104.47 compared with ¥103.92 late Monday in New York.

After Tokyo stocks opened lower, the U.S. dollar slipped to as low as ¥103.58, close to the ¥103.55 mark set June 16 after the Bank of Japan held policy unchanged at its monthly meeting.
