KLSE Malaysia News Update : Epic Research Malaysia

Malaysia will drape itself in black for a national day of mourning Friday as it welcomes home the remains of 20 citizens killed on downed Flight MH17.

Malaysian King Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah and Prime Minister Najib Razak will attend a sombre ceremony at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, followed by a minute's silence observed nationwide for the victims - the first to arrive of 43 from the country.

Malaysians have been asked to wear black, the national flag will be flown at half-mast, and businesses, government agencies, and citizens across the Muslim-majority country have been told to refrain from festive activities out of respect.

"We have done what we can in trying to include the people in paying their last respects, especially during the one minute of silence," Defence Minister Hishammuddin Hussein said Wednesday.

Malaysia Airlines Market News Update : Epic Research Malaysia

Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott on Saturday welcomed the recovery of more remains from the crash site of Flight MH17 but said it would take at least another week to complete the task.

Some 38 Australian citizens and residents, including children, were among the 298 killed when the Malaysia Airlines plane from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur was downed over eastern Ukraine on July 17.

Efforts to collect all the remains have been held up by deadly clashes between government troops and pro-Russian rebels but a Dutch-led police mission was finally able to comb the scattered wreckage on Friday.

Malaysia Airlines Market News Update : Epic Research Malaysia

The chances of Dutch and Australian police reaching the crash site of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 are not good, and the effort could take days, a senior Australian official said Monday.

An unarmed team of Dutch and Australian officers was forced to drop their plans to visit the site Sunday as heavy bombardments rocked towns close to the area where the plane was shot down, killing all 298 on board.

And tensions were such that the Netherlands scrapped a plan to send an international armed mission in to secure the site, with the Dutch Prime Minister saying it was "not realistic".

Australian Federal Police deputy commissioner Andrew Colvin said it was not known when recovery teams will get to the impact zone.

Malaysia Airlines Market News Update : Epic Research Malaysia

The Netherlands on Sunday scrapped plans to send an international armed mission to secure the crash site of Malaysian flight MH17, fearing a deployment risked being dragged into the conflict in east Ukraine.

Dutch authorities leading the probe into the downing of the passenger airliner carrying 298 people had along with Australia planned to send armed officers, but Prime Minister Mark Rutte said this is no longer viable.

"Getting the military upper hand for an international mission in this area is according to our conclusion not realistic," Rutte told journalists in The Hague, noting the presence of heavily armed separatists and the proximity of the border with Russia - accused of backing the rebels.

Malaysia Airlines Market News Update : Epic Research Malaysia

Ukraine's prime minister resigned on Thursday after his governing coalition collapsed, plunging the former Soviet state into political limbo as it struggles to quell a deadly rebellion in the east.

The shock announcement added to an already chaotic situation in the rebel-controlled east, where international experts are carrying out a complex investigation into last week's downing of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 that left 298 dead.

And the gravity of the situation facing the country was underscored by allegations from Washington that the US has evidence Russian troops are firing artillery on Ukrainian military positions from Russian soil.

Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk said he was stepping down over the "dissolution of the parliamentary coalition and the blocking of government initiatives" after several parties walked out on the ruling group.

Malaysia Airlines Market News Update : Epic Research Malaysia

The first bodies from flight MH17 arrived in the Netherlands on Wednesday almost a week after it was shot down over Ukraine, as the conflict flared yet again near the Malaysian airliner's crash site.

Uniformed Dutch military personnel solemnly hoisted 40 wooden coffins from two planes and placed them in individual hearses at Eindhoven airport in the south of the country in a powerfully sombre ceremony, as a trumpeter played the Last Post and a large crowd of the bereaved watched, shielded from the press.

The televised two-hour ceremony watched across the Netherlands and abroad came in stark contrast to the chaotic and disturbing scenes filmed in the aftermath of the plane crash.

Church bells rang throughout the country as the planes touched down in a much-delayed return for the first as-yet unidentified remains of the 298 people killed in the disaster, most of them Dutch.

Malaysia Airlines Market News Update : Epic Research Malaysia

Dutch lead investigators into the shooting down over Ukraine of flight MH17 said Wednesday that data from the cockpit voice recorder was intact and had not been tampered with.

"The cockpit voice recorder was damaged but the memory module was intact. Furthermore no evidence or indications of manipulation of the cockpit voice recorder was found," the Dutch Safety Board (OVV) said as the black boxes were being analysed in Britain.

The recorders, salvaged from the plane wreckage in eastern Ukraine, have been handed to the Air Accidents Investigation Branch headquarters in Farnborough, southwest of London.

AAIB experts are tasked with extracting information from the cockpit voice recorder, which should give them hours of pilots' conversations, as well as the contents of the flight data recorder.

Malaysia Airlines Market News Update : Epic Research Malaysia

Malaysian flight MH17 may have been shot down by "mistake" by ill-trained pro-Russian separatists, US intelligence officials said on Tuesday, while dismissing Moscow's accounts of the incident.

Evidence gathered so far suggests separatists launched the SA-11 surface-to-air missile that blew up the Malaysian airliner, but it remains unclear "who pulled the trigger" and why, said a senior intelligence official who spoke on condition of anonymity.

"The most plausible explanation... was that it was a mistake," and that the missile was fired by "an ill-trained crew" using a system that requires some skill and training, the official said.

The intelligence official cited previous incidents over the years in which both Russian and US forces have mistakenly shot down civilian airliners.

Malaysian officials have handed over the black boxes from flight MH17 to Dutch lead investigators of the crash in rebel-held Ukraine, the Netherlands government said.

"The black boxes from flight MH17 have been handed over by Malaysian experts to the Dutch Safety Board (OVV) that is leading the international investigation," the foreign ministry said in a statement.

The black box data recorders from the flight, allegedly brought down by a missile fired by pro-Russian separatists on Thursday, were handed over in Kiev and will be sent to Farnborough in Britain for the data to be downloaded.

Malaysia Airlines Market News Update : Epic Research Malaysia

US President Barack Obama piled pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday to force pro-Russian separatists in Ukraine to stop blocking an international investigation into the downing of a passenger jet last week.

In what has become a dramatic escalation in the worst East-West crisis since the Cold War, Obama denounced the Russian role in eastern Ukraine in some of his strongest language yet and pointedly appealed to Putin to cut ties with the separatists or risk greater international isolation. "Now's the time for President Putin and Russia to pivot away from the strategy that they've been taking and get serious about trying to resolve hostilities within Ukraine," Obama said in remarks on the White House South Lawn.

With investigators blocked from the crash site and most of the bodies of the victims removed, Obama said Russia should compel the separatists to let the investigation go ahead.

He questioned why the rebels were blocking access. "What exactly are they trying to hide?" he said.

Malaysia Airlines Market News Update : Epic Research Malaysia

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Monday it was essential for international investigators to be granted safe access to the crash site of flight MH17 in Ukraine.

In a video address released by the Kremlin in the early hours of Monday, Mr Putin vowed that Russia will do all it can to bring about a settlement of the Ukraine conflict following the downing of the Malaysian passenger plane last week.

"Russia will do everything in its power so that the conflict in eastern Ukraine moves from today's military phase to the phase of negotiations by peaceful and diplomatic means," he said.

Western leaders are demanding Putin use his influence to persuade the rebels controlling the crash site in eastern Ukraine to hand over the bodies of the 298 victims and allow international investigators full access.

Malaysia Airlines said on Monday it would make an initial payment of US$5,000 to families of passengers aboard its crashed flight MH17 as a goodwill gesture.

The national carrier said it would provide the money to each passenger's immediate family "as goodwill to ease... their economic needs".

"Funds have already been made available for this purpose," it said in a statement.

"This financial assistance will not be offset against the final compensation, nor affect the families' legal rights to claim."
