On the New York Mercantile Exchange, light, sweet crude futures for delivery in August CLQ4 +0.49% rose $1.99, or 2%, to end at $103.19 a barrel. That was the highest close since July 8.
September Brent crude UK:LCOU4 +0.41% on London’s ICE Futures exchange rose 81 cents to $107.89 a barrel.
On Wednesday, the EIA reported U.S. crude inventories fell by 7.5 million barrels in the week ended July 11, far exceeding the 3-million-barrel decline forecast by the analysts surveyed by Platts.
