Dollar slightly down against yen as investors focus on China

The dollar inched lower on Monday as investors sat on the sidelines, waiting for fresh clues during Asian trade.


The dollar USDJPY, -0.16%  was at ¥118.82, compared with ¥118.95 late Friday in New York.

The Shanghai Composite Index SHCOMP, -1.64%  was up 1.0% midday after softening earlier in the session. The Nikkei Stock Average NIK, -0.09%  was up 0.3%.

Among other currency pairs, the euro EURUSD, -0.30%  was at $1.0786 from $1.0803, while the common currency EURJPY, -0.47%  was at ¥128.02 from ¥128.52.

The WSJ Dollar Index BUXX, -0.02% a measure of the dollar against a basket of major currencies, was up 0.05% at 86.82.
