Fresnillo reports rise in silver, gold output

Fresnillo, the world's largest primary silver producer and Mexico's second-largest gold producer, said silver production, including silver from its Silverstream supply contract, rose nearly 19% to 12.4 million troy ounces in the first three months of the year, compared with the same period a year earlier, due to increased processing of ore and higher ore grade at its Saucito mine, which more than offset lower production at its flagship Fresnillo mine.

Gold output rose 62% to 182,000 ounces in the first quarter compared with the same quarter a year earlier, mainly due to Herradura being fully operational post the temporary explosives permit suspension which affected the comparative quarter, and the dynamic leaching plant at the mine now in operation, together with an increased contribution from Saucito.
