Natural gas extends gains with U.S. supply up 92 billion cubic feet

Natural-gas futures on Thursday added to earlier gains after the U.S. Energy Information Administration reported that supplies of natural gas rose by 92 billion cubic feet for the week ended May 15. That was a bit less than the climb of between 93 billion cubic feet and 97 billion cubic feet expected by analysts polled by Platts.

Total stocks now stand at 1,989 trillion cubic feet, up 738 billion cubic feet from a year ago and 35 billion cubic feet below the five-year average, the government said. June natural gas NGM15, +0.24% was at $2.987 per million British thermal units, up 7.2 cents, or 2.5%. It was trading around $2.95 before the data.
