The ringgit closed lower against the US dollar on Monday on mild profit-taking after it ended last week's trading better against the greenback, dealers said.
At 5 pm, the ringgit was quoted at 3.8015/8045 against the greenback from Friday's 3.7925/7955.
A dealer said the US dollar strengthened as the agreement on the third bailout for Greece had been reached by eurozone leaders, shifting the market's focus towards the US possible interest rate hike.
The US Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen, had on Friday, expected the Fed to raise interest rates at some point this year.
