THE ringgit is falling – and so are other regional currencies – as the rise, and rise, of the US dollar pummels currencies around the globe, sending many to their multi-year lows.
And this pressure is not about to end any time soon, as the growing anticipation of interest-rate hike by the US Federal Reserve are triggering huge surges of capital flows back to the world’s largest economy.
As it stands, many are expecting the Fed to start raising interest rates in the coming months, possibly from September onwards, after a six-year period of near-zero interest rates, amid an improving outlook for the US economy.
