CIMB Equities Research views that sentiment on Malaysian banks, whether on the part of local or foreign investors, is rather weak at the moment due to the uncertainties in the external economic environment.
It said on Tuesday the factors included some sector-specific de-rating catalysts like margin contraction, high capital requirements and higher average cost of funds arising from keen deposit competition.
“We, therefore, continue to advise investors to reduce their holdings in Malaysian banks,” it said.
