T was a massive cut that not many had expected, as eventually, Malaysia Airlines (MAS) would have laid off half of its workforce despite it having been done in stages.
The initial plan announced in August last year was for only 6,000 job cuts.
Khazanah Nasional Bhd’s latest quarterly report states that only 13,000 people reported for work on Sept 1 with the new airline, Malaysia Airlines Bhd (MAB), implying that 5,000 had lost their jobs. Khazanah is the owner of both the old and new airline.
