KLCI slips below 1,700 at midday

Blue chips extended their losses on Monday with the FBM KLCI falling below the key 1,700 level at midday weighed down by IHH Healthcare and banks as foreign funds locked in some of the recent gains.

At midday, the KLCI was down 5.03 points or 0.3% to 1,698.76. Turnover was 773.11 million shares valued at RM494.19mil. There were 271 gainers, 353 losers and 323 counters unchanged.

The ringgit was firmer against the US dollar, pound sterling and Singapore dollar after a hestitant start. It was at 4.0255 to the greenback from 4.0370 last Friday, it was firmer against the pound at 5,6895 from 5.7056 and it edged up to 2.9361 to the Singapore unit from 2.9449.
