Speculation that AirAsia Bhd was looking to monetise its aircraft leasing business has been confirmed after its head honcho Tan Sri Tony Fernandes said that the company had received a US$1bil offer for it.
Fernandes said this in an interview with Bloomberg, adding that he needed to discuss the offer at AirAsia’s board level.
Elaborating on the matter, Fernandes told StarBiz: “We have been criticised for having our own aircraft leasing company (Asia Aviation Capital or AAC), but we see great opportunities in the business of leasing aircraft, including the A320neos.”
