The dollar was moderately higher against the yen in directionless Asian trade on Friday, as investors remained reluctant to make major moves ahead of the weekend and upcoming data and events next week.
The U.S. currency USDJPY, -0.06% was changing hands at ¥109.75, compared with ¥109.75 late Thursday in New York.
The greenback gained moderately in mid morning trade to briefly touch the ¥110-mark, with a mild gain in the Nikkei Stock Average NIK, +0.37% inducing selling of the yen. The benchmark Nikkei was up 0.4% in late trade.

The U.S. currency was weaker overnight as new data such as durable good orders reflected a mixed outlook on the U.S. economy.
