Blue chips edged higher in mixed trade at midday on Thursday, underpinned by gains in selected banks, IHH Healthcare and Genting Bhd, as the ringgit advanced against the major currencies while crude oil stayed above the key US$50 a barrel.
At 12.30pm, the KLCI was up 1.96 points or 0.12% to 1,659.81. Turnover was 935.39 million shares valued at RM668.92mil. There were 317 gainers, 308 losers and 338 counters unchanged.
The ringgit firmed up against the major currenices. It rose to 4.0363 against the US dollar from the previous day's close of 4.0523. It was at 5.8514 to the pound sterling from 5.9035; advanced to 2.9931 against the Singapore dollar from 3.0026 and inched up to 4.6029 against the euro from 4.6180.
