The ringgit opened higher against the US dollar Tuesday morning on increased demand for the local currency and amid a better equity market.
At 9.00 am(0100 gmt), the local unit was quoted at 4.0850/0900 against the US dollar from 4.0950/0020 at 5 pm on Friday.
A dealer said the US dollar retreated against other major currencies as Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen's statement on an interest rate hike gave no clue as to when it would be implemented.
The ringgit also traded higher against a basket of other major currencies.
It appreciated against the Singapore dollar to 3.0105/0164 from Monday's close of 3.0128/0182 and improved against the euro to 4.6393/6466 from 4.6507/6591.
