Intellectual Property Corp of Malaysia (MyIPO) aims to garner between 7,400 and 7,800 Malaysian intellectual property (IP) applications in 2015.
Director General Shamsiah Kamaruddin said as of May this year, 7,232 IP applications had been received by MyIPO and 87,656 since 2010.
"IP applications which comprise patents, trademarks and designs, are derived mainly from the chemical, engineering and telecommunications sectors," she told reporters at the Global IP Valuation Conference held here on Tuesday.
MyIPO is collaborating with the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry, SME Corp, SIRIM and other related agencies to increase IP public awareness, said Shamsiah.
MyIPO encourages the involvement of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) as they have IPs which are valuable.
