Tenaga slumps to December low as KLCI extends losses

Blue chips continued to sustain losses with the FBM KLCI sliding more than seven points at the midday break on Tuesday, led by power giant Tenaga Nasional.

At 12.30pm, the FBM KLCI was down 7.22 points or 0.42% to 1,732.23. Turnover was 680.15 million shares valued at RM622.04mil. Decliners beat advancers 494 to 178 while 273 counters were unchanged.

Key regional markets were mostly lower. Reuters reported China stocks slipped into negative terrain on Tuesday, easing off new seven-year highs hit the previous day, as some investors took profit after soft inflation data suggested the economy was still struggling.

At Bursa Malaysia, Tenaga was in focus as it fell 22 sen to RM13.14 – the lowest since Dec 17, 2014. Its fall erased 2.13 points from the KLCI.

Recently, Tenaga came under selling pressure on worries it might pay a lofty price for the 1MDB’s power assets.
