The dollar strengthened against the yen during Asia trade Monday as investors sold the Japanese currency, walking away from its perceived safety after losses in Tokyo stocks narrowed.
The greenback USDJPY, +0.14% was at ¥117.15 after touching a high of ¥117.38 earlier in the session. That compares with ¥116.96 late Friday in New York.
The U.S. currency was also higher against the euro EURUSD, -0.2748% , which fell to $1.0895 from $1.0918. The common currency was at ¥127.72, compared with ¥127.68 late Friday.
