The role of the venture capital (VC) and private equity (PE) industry in the region is vital to complete, complement and boost the regional economy, said Ministry of Finance Deputy Secretary-General Datuk Dr Sundaran Annamalai.
He said that VC and PE were an essential catalyst for the growth of the regions economic engine which is small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
"We are aware that every ASEAN government has continued to assist their own SMEs to grow through various programmes.
"In Malaysia, we have many government agencies to see to this effort including the Malaysian Global Innovation and Creativity Centre (MaGIC), which focuses on the training and exposure of entrepreneurship," he said in a keynote address at the Southeast Asia VC and PE Conference here on Tuesday.
